SUMMARY:Djangophonique w/ Under Paris Skies Duo
DESCRIPTION:Please welcome them for their first time playing at The Hotel. Djangophonique is an award winning project that delivers the infectious joy\, and expressive freedom that is at the heart of Django Reinhardt’s jazz manouche. With respect for the tradition and a fearless creativity that bends the conventions of the style\, Djangophonique is keeping the Hot Club revival alive and well. The result is a sound that’s unmistakable to fans of the music\, and alluring to the uninitiated—a sound that can bring the lively energy of a Parisian dance hall to the quietest listening room or captivate a buzzing festival audience with the aching nostalgia of a shimmering ballad. \nDjangophonique has been described as “…the cleanest\, most genuine manouche jazz that can be heard in Michigan” (Local Spins). Led by guitar player Andrew Brown\, a true disciple of the style\, the project has cultivated a community of musicians who channel the tenacious agility that the music demands. In 2022 the group released their first studio album\, “Introducing Djangophonique\,” which won Best Jazz Album\, Traditions Award\, as well as earning them Artist Of The Year at the WYCE Jammies. \nIn 2023 the group began a new chapter with the addition of vocalist Katie Smith\, who’s soulful approach channels the mystery and appeal of an unplaceable era. With a second studio album and a full concert schedule in the works for 2024\, Djangophonique is poised to forge a connection with an expansive audience through the resonance of their artistry. \n$6 MINIMUM cover—all $ collected goes to the artists. \nShow is outside\, weather permitting. If weather does not cooperate\, we’ll bring the show indoors\, under the arch. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair and get settled in for a few hours of beautiful music. Only food and drink purchased from The Hotel may be consumed on the hotel grounds or restaurant/bar.We can’t wait to hear them live!

SUMMARY:Trevor McSpadden
DESCRIPTION:Last year he had his first gig here and Mother Nature cooperated. It was April 8th and it was warm enough to play outside to a very enthusiastic audience. \nTrevor McSpadden worked Central Texas dance halls before perfecting his hard honky-tonk sound in the nightclubs of Chicago.  Moving to California in early 2014\, Trevor made short work of ingratiating himself to the Golden State.  Now based out of Saint Paul\, Minnesota\, McSpadden’s carefully crafted twang is at home in both beer joints and listening rooms\, inspiring audiences to dance and carry on in the time-honored way. \n$5 minimum cover. The hat will be passed to help keep Trevor on the road\, spreading music and song wherever he goes. Give this guy a listen if you have a love for honky-tonk or just a desire to go back to a simpler time.

SUMMARY:Erik Koskinen Trio w/ Dandy L. Freling Opening
DESCRIPTION:Erik Koskinen is an American singer-songwriter\, multi-instrumentalist and producer\, whose music is not categorized by sub-genres. Stylistically he is on his own while heavily influenced by American roots music. The rhythmic integrity and musical tone is as important as the lyrical content and the artistic intent. Koskinen has reverently entered the anthology of uniquely crafted wry songs with the likes of Woody Guthrie and Ry Cooder while speaking as plainly as your neighbor. The Minneapolis Star Tribune calls Koskinen “the real deal” and “The Best country songwriter in Minnesota” \nDandy L. Freling based in Milwaukee\, WI is a boot stompin’ finger pickin’ folkie and highway-kind traveler combining a touch of the high and lonesome hollers of the Appalachian hill people with the low-down\, dusty grooves of the cosmic cowboys\, Dandy has created a unique songwriter banquet sure to satisfy the hunger of any weary passerby. A boot stompin’ finger picker with remnant hollers of the greats of our past – Don’t be afraid to stop awhile\, and fill up your plate\, there’s plenty to go around. \n“Koskinen’s a lights-out guitar player and his band is as good as any band in the country. But he’s also a top-shelf writer\, with a blade-sharp wit and love songs so real and tender they seem to transcend the form. I know of few writers whose relationship to their own landscape\, in this case the rural north\, is so elemental\, and so integral. His songs feel like weather. People know him in Minnesota\, where most bar bands seem to cover at least one of his songs\, but otherwise he’s still one of the best kept secrets in the country. He sings about an America that doesn’t get much play anymore\, the one where the people at the bottom can’t quite get ahead\, and where working people aren’t cartoon props in a culture war\, but shrewd human beings living hard lives\, and hard loves. His songs have the diamond-hard clarity and simplicity of Tom Petty\, and like Petty\, Koskinen can sing a literal statement without metaphor or ornament\, and make it move like poetry. The spiritual hunger in rock ‘n’ roll that came from blues and gospel is still a hunger in these songs\, and if you listen hard\, you can hear that lean coyote voice — wary\, feral\, full of fierce delight — lighting up the wee hours from somewhere out on the prairie.” – Jeffrey Foucault \nAbout the venue: As this show is an acoustic listening session\, only 50 ticketed guests will be admitted for seated viewing. 20 Standing Room Only tickets will be available on the day of the event for $25. \nBuy Your Tickets Now!

SUMMARY:Singer/Songwriter Sunday with James 'Mudkat' Grant
DESCRIPTION:James “Mudkat” Grant began listening to rock n roll\, classical\, and country music at an early age. He joined his first band in high school after seeing the Beatles on TV\, extending it through college years playing hundreds and hundreds of gigs. Having the opportunity to open for the Flying Burrito Brothers in May\, 1970\, changed their repertoire and musical direction. The band\, now called North Country\, moved to Denver\, where they opened for the comedian Steve Martin\, but within a year the band had broken up\, so Grant moved into doing solo work with vocal\, guitar and harmonica. \nRecording his first CD in ’95\, “Not the Only World”\, which was nominated for a Minnesota Music Award\, James continued writing and performing in the upper midwest with occasional forays with other musicians. “This Town”\,  an EP\, with This Town \, the title cut\, Southern View\, Distant Light\, and Something New\, was recorded in 2013\, with other songs waiting for studio production. \nJames Grant has been heavily influenced in his writing style by Sting\, Neil Young\, Dylan\, James Taylor and others\, along with environmental and social justice issues. His passion for writing and performing\, with guitar and vocal study\, has continued to this day. \nThis very early member of the Organic Music Cooperative delivers reflective originals and digs deep for obscure tracks that need to be shared and brought back to life. \n$5 cover gives you three hours of fantastic music AND shelter from the storm in the forecast.

SUMMARY:Brian Beard Solo
DESCRIPTION:Brian Beard is a Midwestern singer/songwriter raised in Wisconsin Dells\, but now hails from La Crosse\, WI. His shows include original music and covers of more well-known artists\, usually B-sides and other forgotten gems. Brian writes songs about his experiences\, like growing up in his hometown.\nAlthough music has always been a big part of Brian’s life\, he didn’t start playing guitar until he was in his twenties. After several years of self-study\, a friend asked him to buy a bass and start a band. Playing bass in several different bands around La Crosse\, WI allowed his musical talent to grow over many years.\nWhen Covid hit\, his bands quit playing and guitar playing became a priority to be able perform live. Now as a solo artist Brian can focus more on his own writing and cover song choices. Brian can play shows of various lengths\, from 30 minutes to 4 hours. Most are an eclectic mix of originals and covers. Brian can play over 50 songs from almost as many different artists in a 3-hour gig. He knows 100s of songs from Sinatra to Sublime and Led Zeppelin to Leon Russell. Old timey and contemporary tunes as well as many Originals too. Brian plays Epiphone acoustic and electric guitars and basses\, as well as Engelhardt and Ty Striebel upright basses. Always looking for new places to play\, indoors or outdoors\, near or far\, Brian can fit into and entertain a crowd. His voice\, friendly nature and breadth of song choice make the gigs so fun. He has been getting repeats from Saxon Hall\, Hei and Low\, Riverfront Terrace in the Dells\, Moxie’s and Pearl Street Brewery in La Crosse. Etc….\nBrianBeardMusic.com or BrianBeardMusic on Facebook and YouTube. His shows are just great!

SUMMARY:Jack Klatt & Mike Munson
DESCRIPTION:Jack Klatt and Mike Munson \nTwo Separate acts sharing Minnesota’s finest rhythm section! \nLars-Erik Larson /Drums \nNick Salisbury /Bass \nABOUT THE ARTISTS \nHaving established himself as an adept slide guitar player\, Mike Munson is steeped in the country blues tradition. His original works weave together dark lyrics\, impossibly fast-paced finger-picking and grinding rhythms. His sound marks the similarities and highlights the distance between Fred McDowell\, Leo Kottke and Chuck Berry. \nHis latest album Underwood- \nWith nine tracks of both traditional and original music\, Underwood solidifies Mike Munson’s place in the blues genre. Inspired by a prompt from Minnesota craft whiskey maker\, Rick Schneider\, after a night of music on his front porch\, Munson recorded the album live in two short days at \nUnderwood Recording Studios in Minneapolis with no overdubs and no compiled takes. The guidance and creativity of Mark Stockert behind the soundboard combined with his unconventional and thoughtful microphone placement builds sonics that harken back to the juke joints and early electrified recording sessions of country blues. With this \ncollection of songs\, Munson demonstrates how much he has learned over the years from mentors like Jimmy “Duck” Holmes (Bentonia\, MS) through numerous southern sojourns. \nMunson continues to use simplicity\, melancholy and drive to add another chapter to the story of American music. He relies on his innate skills on the instrument with little help from effects or accompaniment. From Robert Johnson’s “Stones in my Passway” to the traditional tune “Poor Black Mattie\,” Munson blends his guitar prowess with the gritty tone that has become his signature. \n“Sailing For You” and “Saint Anne” exemplify his songwriting skill\, both lyrically and melodically\, with heavy rhythms overlaid with intricate fingerpicking complimented by stories that keep darkness and light deeply intertwined. The four original tracks on the album were all written while on a weeklong artistic retreat in a cabin in rural Wisconsin in winter of 2023 sponsored by the Two Chickadees \nProject. \nUnderwood the album gives the listener a clear glimpse of Underwood the studio\, the unadulterated sound of one person with one electric guitar in a basement room of a small Minneapolis home. Somehow\, it also transports the listener to a different time and place where that one person sits on the front porch of a small house in the country with an acoustic guitar and sings the blues. \nMusical missionary\, tireless troubadour and producer Jack Klatt isn’t one to be easily categorized or relegated to a narrow niche. He is a man with a wizened and worldly perspective\, and a timeless sensibility of both place and purpose. His album It Ain’t The Same reflects a reverential attitude\, but adds a depth and devotion that ensures its contemporary credence. With Klatt himself singing\, playing guitar and sitting in the producer’s chair\, it boasts the talents of session players John James Tourville (The Deslondes) on electric guitar and pedal steel\, Casey McDonough (NRBQ) on bass\, Alex Hall and JD McPherson (The Cactus Blossoms)\, Robbie Fulks on drums\, percussion\, keys and engineering and Page Burkum’s harmonies. It Ain’t The Same is\, as its title suggests\, something truly special. \nAbout his recent single\, “Edge of the End” \nDuring his stay in the Chihuahuan desert after 2 years homebound during the pandemic\, Jack was inspired by the landscape – a blank canvas before his eyes. While it felt like the whole world was teetering on an apocalyptic precipice\, Jack was also physically\, and emotionally feeling like he was at the edge of the end\, surrounded by the wide open landscape filled with dust and brush. \nWe are asking for a minimum $10 per adult listener as a contribution to the artist. If you want to pitch in more\, that is encouraged. Please bring cash. We want you to be able to enjoy live music at a price that most can afford. Live music does make the world a better place. \nAll ages welcome!

Performing in a unique Reggae/Hip Hop/Jazz style\, he is sure to turn heads wherever he is rockin’! \nMike uses his feet to hit the drums as well as an array of fully intuitive pedal boards complete with: loopers\, bass splits\, synthesizer sounds\, etc. He records the rhythm section (guitar and bass) on the spot\, and layers over it with drums\, solos\, fills\, etc. all while singing\, rapping\, or talk boxing\, and soloing on his guitar simultaneously. \nWe request a minimum $5 per adult listener\, with all money collected going to the artist. \nThank you for your continued support of the artists and our little slice of heaven. \nIf you can’t make 2-5\, come for the 7-10 show OR come for both! With his massive repertoire\, you won’t hear a repeat unless you request it.
