SUMMARY:Marques Morel
DESCRIPTION:Marques Morel is an American songwriter/story-teller\, midwestern-twanger/folksinger\, guitar-thumper/harmonica wailer\, street-performer/wandering troubadour\, steadfast woodcutter/migrant worker\, a father\, a son\, and a friend to all.“Taking his cue from the likes of Townes Van Zandt\, Woody Guthrie\, Hank Williams\, and any number of other tattered troubadours\, (Marques Morel) sounds like a cross between Johnny Cash\, Bob Seger\, and the late John Stewart (solo\, The Kingston Trio) reciting ragged tales of the American West and its once-former glories\,” writes Lee Zimmerman of The Alternate Root.Originally from the Illinois corn country\, he has performed just about anywhere that anybody would listen: big city street corners around the world\, county fairs\, folk festivals\, hole in the wall taverns/divebars/honky tonks\, cabin porches\, backyard barbeques\, listening rooms\, theatres large and small\, and beside many campfires and woodstoves amongst the ghosts of his songwriter heroes.Marques has had the honor of sharing stages with some of the great songsters of our time- Charlie Parr\, Arlo McKinley\, Joe Pug\, Willy Tea Taylor\, Riley Downing\, Billy Don Burns\, Pokey LaFarge\, and Chicago Farmer to name a few of his favorites.Marques has released five original albums to date: “Live and Raw in Rockford” (2013) and “Searching for America” (2014) were recorded bare bones with passion before his hiatus from solo work for about 6 years. In 2021 Morel returned to the studio for “Trail of The Ghost” and in 2022 he released his first full band record- “Wind and Rain.”In June of 2024 Morel released “Tales and Tellings\,” his first work to earn widespread critical acclaim. “Tales and Tellings” was recorded at Bomb Shelter studio in Nashville\, TN and produced by Andrija Tokic (producer of The Deslondes\, John R. Miller\, Ian Noe\, Luke Bell\, etc.). In response to the record\, NO DEPRESSION stated- “There’s no filler here. Every song on ‘Tales and Tellings’ is packed with plenty of ear candy\, revealing Morel’s wry wit that never turns smarmy. It’s delivered from the heart\, dusty and roadworn\, but undaunted.”Known for his intense and infectious energy on stage and his gritty and honest songwriting and delivery\, Marques Morel has been described by his fans as “raw and rustic” and “guts on the floor\,” sometimes abandoning the mic and guitar cable to march into the crowd and lead a raucous bar or a sterile listening room into a grand finale of singalongs and stompalongs. He currently plays around 150 shows a year and will be found performing either as a one man show accompanied by his old guitar\, harmonica on the rack\, and makeshift kick drum\, or with his dynamic and spirited band\, The Midnight Wind.We ask for a minimum of $6 per adult listener for the artists-the price of a pint.

SUMMARY:Brothers Burn Mountain
DESCRIPTION:It has been nearly a year since we last hosted The Brothers. Show upfor what is certain to be a surreal AND fabulous experience. Brothers Burn Mountain\, Jesse and Ryan Dermody\, built a recording studio deep in the Minnesota woods years ago. They’ve tried to capture the sound of the howling north wind\, warm spring rain and evening crickets ever since. The guitar-drum duo has logged over to 2\,000 shows in 25 years of performing. Their 11th full-length album\, The Thrill and the Flame is described by the brothers as “our ode to resilience\, our mantra to joy\, our attempt at describing brief encounters with the divine in each of us.” Most recently they released a compilation of their favorite 20 songs. If you’ve not experienced The Brothers\, it is time. Come with an open heart and an open mind. They take listeners on a trip to another dimension. The first set builds you up for the beautifully organic\, organized chaos that occurs in the second set. Be here for the ride. Minimum $7 cover with all $$ going to the artists. Call 608 534 6898 for a room and make a weekend of it.

SUMMARY:Mike Munson April Residency
DESCRIPTION:Join Mike Munson each Sunday afternoon in April for a set of music\, a bite to eat and a drink next to the World Famous Mississippi River! There will be occasional guests (Mikkel Beckmen on the 12th and Kelley Smith on the 19th) and\, if the spring weather is inviting\, the music will move out to the deck. This is a “pass the hat” event\, a minimum of $6 a person is requested.\nMike Munson (Winona\, MN) is a renowned guitarist with an unmistakable sound. His prolific catalogue of original songs blends elements of indie folk\, roots\, jazz and improvised music. He has warmed the stage for legends like Mavis Staples\, traveled the country with Grammy nominee Jimmy “Duck” Holmes and been invited to perform at multiple international festivals. Munson’s long career as a solo touring musician has garnered a devoted fan base and a reputable place within the bustling Minnesota music scene.\nMunson’s song-writing leaves much to interpretation while his voicing on the guitar is distinctly recognizable after decades of pursuit of the perfect tone. He has been mentioned in reputable publications including Smithsonian\, Guitar Player and No Depression. His recordings are in regular rotation at both urban and rural radio stations throughout the region. He has also been invited to appear at the Vancouver Folk Music Festival\, the Montreal International Jazz Festival\, and the Waterfront Blues Festival\, proving that he belongs in multiple genres at an elite level.\nIn addition to a robust solo career\, the Mike Munson Trio is an incomparable rhythm section of three where Munson is joined by Nick Salisbury on bass and Lars-Erik Larson on drums. Together they explore Munson’s newest original compositions\, transportive jazz-like instrumentals and tragic Americana ballads\, exhibiting a symmetry that is easy on the ears. The group relishes live performance where the nightly set list will include familiar songs encountered from a new angle\, expanding or contracting arrangements depending on the inclination of the players. The Trio’s first full length album “Sometimes\, Not Always” is due out on Liatris Records in spring of 2026.\nIn 2024 Munson released his tenth full-length album “Perihelion Day” (Liatris Records). Using the moniker upup/OVER\, he continued to expand his creative playing field with this acoustic\, instrumental record. Inspired by time and space and the distance between humans and nature\, upup/OVER is an exploration of big issues through the lens of American primitive guitar. From galleries to house concerts to churches\, this sparse\, ambient music has mesmerized and entranced audiences.\nThe easily recognizable voice that Munson has developed can be traced back to the early years of his career when he had the privilege of recording the album “Rose Hill” at the Blue Front Cafe in Bentonia\, Mississippi. He had thrived under the direct and poignant mentorship of Jimmy “Duck” Holmes\, who invited him to join Blue Front Records. Having come face to face with the living history of blues music\, Munson’s sound is marked by a reverence for this historic southern art form\, which is laden with intricate finger picking and hypnotic rhythms. While no longer fitting squarely in the blues genre\, his regard for his teachers and their guidance continues to drive Munson’s many artistic pursuits.

SUMMARY:Wes Urbaniak & The Mountain Folk
DESCRIPTION:Wes Urbaniak is an amalgamation of songwriting\, storytelling and unique craftsmanship. His music is real\, honest\, bold and a little odd in the best way possible. The experiences of his life have created stories through his songs. He pushes the limits within the human mind while opening up the possibilities for the human spirit to explore what’s dwelling within. There are so many special things about this band and its music\, its artistic – through reclamation – endeavors\, and its call to persist through the hard things is exceptional. For instance\, even the instruments represent the story of the music. Each instrument contains original reclaimed Red Rocks Amphitheater bench redwood – *Wes is the Luthier behind the magical matter. You should watch the band try to explain it in its most simplest way. By listening to the music and thumbing through the story you’ll discover one of the most beautiful efforts whispered into song in these times while finding what’s good and holding care for the world we live in. It has been a bit of a destiny for Wes Urbaniak to bring his music through these instruments out into the world and then again back to Red Rocks…

While no longer fitting squarely in the blues genre\, his regard for his teachers and their guidance continues to drive Munson’s many artistic pursuits.\n\nSee less

DESCRIPTION:The Driftless Revelers gather for an Equinox celebration and down home freak folk at this gem on the Mississippi — the Trempealeau Hotel!\n“Scrappy string-based freak-folk\, featuring songs like ‘Meat Raffle Mambo\,’ ‘Wisconsin Saturday Nights’ and ‘Jesus Shaves’ that both revere and good-naturedly poke fun at state culture — [The Driftless Revelers] may remind listeners of Lou and Peter Berryman or even the old Free Hot Lunch! band.”–Isthmus Magazine\, Madison\, WI.\n”It’s a little ‘out there’: Driftless Revelers release American Fork Standards –Volume One Magazine\, Eau Claire\n“Jack Black ran so these guys could stumble”— Ron\, Announcer at Sol Grass Music Festival 2024\nThe Driftless Revelers formed in the second spring of the first global pandemic of the 21st century\, with one ear turned toward the shellac platters and Victrola virtuosos of the early to mid 20th century\, and the other ear glued to the soundscapes of the 1960’s & 1970’s American freak-folk scene.\nSince their debut tour in 2021\, the band has billed with Grammy & IBMA winning bluegrass legends like Tim O’Brien\, the Gibson Brothers\, & Larry Stephenson\, and toured extensively throughout the upper Midwest & West coast performing with other amazing artists like Big Richard\, The Stillhouse Junkies\, Willy Tea Taylor\, The Pine Box Boys\, The Montvales\, Joseph Huber\, Davey Allen & the Midnights\, Dig Deep\, and had breakout performances at several festivals and events (The Good Luck Campout\, The Sol Grass Music Festival\, Flatrock Bluegrass Jamboree\, Mile of Music in Appleton\, WI. featured in Rolling Stone Magazine\, & The Midsummer in the Northwoods Bluegrass Festival).\nThese Eau Claire\, Wisconsin based weirdos have earned a cult following of devoted fans who appreciate their irreverent\, highly original\, and sometimes slightly psychedelic interpretation of American roots music with a Midwest twist. Their live show banter and thoroughly entertaining sets have earned them comparisons to Ween\, Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show\, They Might be Giants\, Tenacious D\, Cheech & Chong\, and the Holy Modal Rounders. Their debut record\, American Fork Standards (2022)\, was well received by their family members\, and a few other people who said nice things about it. Their second release Live at the Slowpoke Lounge & Cabaret (2024) captures the band’s deadpan comedy and musical chops in a lounge environment that demands a proper listen in a leisure suit with a scotch & Pall Mall. Their third album\, In the Kitchen with the Driftless Revelers\, (2025)\, is the perfect listening experience to whet your sonic appetite or amplify your psychotropic induced munchies. It’s also good for post-feast couch sweats\, and the ritualistic loosening of the belt — and more importantly\, it’s the first record they toured nationally on.\nFeaturing the original songwriting of Ben Nelson\, Matthew R. Sayles\, and Jerod Kaszynski\, the Driftless Revelers will pleasure a crowd with plectral wah pedal banjo tones\, the mournful wailing of resophonic steel guitars\, and the up-right bass bellows of an era that can’t quite be defined\, but revels in the timeless ephemera of weird old-time American music.\nWith influences as varied and eccentric as a proper musty smelling thrift store record collection\, the band grooves merrily through early roots blues and jazz music\, to hillbilly and string band howlers\, all the way into the not-quite folk but not-quite psychedelic realms of their own creation.\nA Driftless Revelers show will lure you in with their joy–keep you dancing with their search for the cosmic groove in the confines of stringed instruments–and will send you on your way with flashbacks of the Driftless Revelry found only in the essence of the intangible reaches of notes once played– that then fall silent.\nThese boys are highly entertaining. Listeners are sure to question what they hear at times\, and laugh when they put it together. Songs like ‘Meat Raffle Mambo’ and ‘Get Naked\, Drink Beer’ give you an idea of what to expect.\nPlease bring cash money. $6 minimum cover per adult listener. All money goes to the band to keep them on the road.\nRooms range in price from $60-$160. Call 608 534 6898 to make a weekend of it!\nhttps://www.philvillerecords.com/thedriftlessrevelers

SUMMARY:Dylan Harris & Good Company
DESCRIPTION:In Wisconsin’s Kickapoo Valley where he makes his home\, sometimes people smile and say that Dylan Harris is the hardest working man in show business. That might be a stretch\, but they still call him “the Ed Sullivan of the Driftless”. He’s a singing-guitarist and songwriter who likes to whistle while he works and he has a knack for delivering the music of others in his own recognizable voice. Dylan is well loved for hosting a circuit of open mics & jam sessions that are staples for the music community in the central Driftless. He has released four studio albums as Dylan Harris & Good Company\, with a live album on the way THIS year. All of that to say…cha cha cha! SUMMARY:Clay Fulton
DESCRIPTION:Clay Fulton is a singer-songwriter from Rochester\, Minnesota. His debut album When Trouble Comes has been a long time coming. Songs like “Walls Of St. Paul” and “When Trouble Comes” were written while studying at McNally Smith College of Music in St. Paul\, Minnesota before coming home to help run the family restaurant. While buried in the business that is owning a restaurant\, he found time to play live music and create songs like “Down On Broadway” that tell of the late nights that follow a long day of work\, and the winding down that takes place afterwards. Using the peaceful vessel of a long drive\, Clay gracefully takes us through his journey showcasing the importance of family and relationships in his more recent songs “Show Me State” and “Call My Bluff”. Clay has a knack for writing clever and simple lines that are both approachable and memorable. We experience that first hand in the song “28 Days”. This album takes us back to the great American folk singers of yesteryear with a modern indie-pop twist; think John Prine meets Dawes. When Trouble Comes balances smart story-telling with serious but playful musical arrangements to support them. Clay definitely wants you to feel the angst\, frustration and grit of the ups and downs of love and life\, all while leaving you with a sign of hope. He’s on the road solo while the ‘Lost 40’ band are getting ready for a busy outdoor concert season.$5 or more cover per listener with all money collected going directly to the artist. Hugs and kisses!

SUMMARY:Ironstill in Residence
DESCRIPTION:Ironstill begins their run of first Thursdays on March 5th. These two are a pretty big deal. Their music calls to the listener from a time long ago. The Hotel\, built in 1871\, is the perfect place to really hear them. Ironstill is the dynamic old-time duo of Josh Rabie and Russell Pedersen. They combine fiddle and banjo traditions into a unique blend of thunderinginstrumentals and original music–beautiful harmonies honed in coulee country blanket with a spread of down-home songs about the Midwest. Russell is a member of the Wisconsin based touring band Horseshoes & Hand Grenades and Josh captain’s an electric Americana outfit named Echo Black River. Their music is sure to bring a smile to your face and a spring in your step. These two are musicians’ musicians. Be sure to catch this show. These guys are busy and we’re all lucky to get them here.Minimum $7 cover with all money collected going to the artists.\nWord of the day: anachronistic-being out of place in time\, like someone or something that doesn’t fit the current period.Use it in a sentence.‘These performers embrace their anachronistic selves\, playing old time music straight from the soul with little to no electronic modification.’
