SUMMARY:Reggae Fest 2025
DESCRIPTION:About the Artists: \nDJ Trichrome\nThe ‘Vibesetta’ has music flowing through his veins…Both local and global\, Trichrome has been rockin’ the decks and spreading his vibrations throughout the universe for decades. He maintains his own niche in the world of digital media with REAL VINYL! Trichrome started his career as a DJ in 1988 alongside Pacesetter Sound System. He went on to co-found Three Kings Sound System in Minneapolis and currently plays with First Settlement Sound System. Trichrome has been a regular fixture in the 311 scene since he joined the Summer Unity Tour with Soulman and Sublime with Rome. He’s shared the stage with many local\, national and international recording artists and adds his own unique energy which sets the vibe and energizes the crowd. \nTUGG\nThese artists do an amazing job channeling tropical grooves and breezy melodies and they are a top draw in the Midwest and beyond. TUGG boasts an impressive resume of rubbing shoulders with reggae heavyweights. From shows with Ziggy Marley\, Barrington Levy and Slightly Stoopid to Tours with The Wailers\, The Dirty Heads\, and PASSAFIRE… TUGG continues to prove why they’re a star of the alternative reggae/ska scene. All of the band’s last 5 releases have debuted in the Top 50 of the iTunes Reggae Chart. Their EP “Home Brew” climbed all the way to #2 and spent 3 weeks in the Hot 100 iTunes Reggae Album Chart. Their album “Mazes” was recorded and produced by PASSAFIRE’S Ted Bowne. \nJon Wayne & The Pain\nThis is JWPs first Hotel Reggae Fest! Playing an upbeat fusion of reggae\, funk\, classic rock\, psychedelia\, and electronics\, Jon Wayne and the Pain hardly sound like a band from Minnesota\, but these proud sons of the Midwest reveal just how lively their snowbound state can be. Jon Wayne and the Pain were formed in 2005 by singer\, guitarist\, and songwriter Jon Wayne\, whose real name is Jon Weight. \nPowered by a lineup of heartbreaking reggae ballads illustrating how our most precious growth often blooms from pain\, combined with a handfull of beat thumping tracks\, Jon Wayne and the Pain’s 5th studio album “Growth Lines” is here.\nWhile embracing the present\, “Growth Lines” also hearkens back to the brashness of the band’s 2008 self-titled debut album and proves that music is always better with friends. They’ve recruited heavyweight performers G Love\, Tropidelic\, Bumpin’ Uglies and Indubious to add flavor and texture to the soundtrack’s 11 or so tunes. \nShowcasing the veteran band’s unique ability to write songs that tug at our heartstrings while keeping our feet moving Growth Lines has something for every JWP fan\, new and old alike. Please give these guys a very warm welcome indeed. \nNatty Nation\nCritically-acclaimed hard roots rock reggae outfit Natty Nation is a collective of spiritual warriors. \nThis Madison based group has purely and fearlessly followed its inner artistic continuum for 30 years! Along the way\, Natty Nation has burst through genres while retaining a distinct roots reggae core. \nThrough it all—whether it’s onstage conducting its shamanistic live show\, or in the studio pushing the scope of its musicality while honing its sharp songcraft—Natty Nation has remained dedicated to one mission: spreading light. On March 11th\, 2016 Natty Nation issued its brightest beacon yet\, Divine Spark (iNatty Records)\, which debuted at #3 on the Billboard reggae chart. \n“Our ultimate goal is to uplift as many people as possible through sound and vibration\,” says frontman JAH Boogie – bass\, lead vocals (also percussion/drums in the studio). “To do that we hope to take our music to as many places on this earth and positively influence as many souls as we possibly can.” \nNatty Nation’s unique pedigree of a Midwest home base and artistic openness has helped the posse foster a signature sound. The group describes themselves as hard roots rock reggae because\, in addition to their honest and authentic roots reggae foundation\, their embrace of soul\, rock\, and funk is undeniable. Natty Nation is also influenced by such diverse geniuses as Michael Jackson\, Jimi Hendrix\, Living Colour\, Earth Wind and Fire\, Fishbone\, and Bad Brains. Since 1995\, Natty Nation has had fluid membership of esteemed and visionary musicians. Currently\, Natty Nation is led by JAH Boogie – bass/lead vocals\, Paule Willis — drums/percussion\, musical director Aaron Konkol – keyboards/vocals/melodica\,Nick Czar — guitar/vocals\, and finally Captain Smooth — live dub engineer. \nThe band’s name remains a conceptual and aesthetic touchstone for the group\, elucidating its wildly diverse cultural and aesthetic journeys. JAH Boogie explains: “The band got its name from a past member who coined it Natty Nation\, dealing with Rastafarian culture and tradition. Natty can be locks of hair (short for natural)\, unity\, or well dressed\, and nation denoting nationality. The idea is that the barriers of nations are not natural\, so the earth is the one natty nation\, and we are all earth citizens. We are all one. The only thing that separates us is the ego and its physical manifestations.” \nSince its inception\, Natty Nation has issued five uncompromising studio albums along with a string of epiphanic live albums. The tastemaking Madison alt-weekly\, Isthmus Magazine\, named their 1998 release Earth Citizen one of the “top 25 Madison pop albums of all time\,” writing that “Natty Nation’s mix of hard roots rock and reggae proved unique and gained a following that remains today.” In 2019 the group was inducted into the Madison Area Music Association Hall of Fame\, and to date has earned 31 Madison Area Music Association awards\, including artist of the year\, ensemble vocals\, world album\, and world performer of the year for nine years in a row. Natty Nation has also received a Wisconsin Area Music Industry award for best world artist. \nOne of the most profound components of Natty Nation’s artistry is its live show. In this context\, the band truly thrives\, and all the years as a unit\, the collective’s telepathic band interplay and colorful palette of music influences make for a fresh freewheeling reggae-focused experience. “We treat our recorded music as a calling card for people to come check us out live\,” JAH Boogie says. “The crowd plays a huge part in where our show goes. Which songs we do\, the vibe\, how long we play\, and most significantly how we play.” Natty Nation has built a robust artistic profile through tirelessly touring\, nationally and internationally. Select live career highlights include performing at SXSW\, Summerfest\, Freakfest\, and as well as throughout the Middle East\, Africa\, Japan\, and the Marshall Islands. \nDivine Spark is a lightning bolt of an inspirational album artistically and introspectively. JAH Boogie explains: “The Divine Spark is the higher self within everyone. I’ve learned that through raising your vibration and opening your chakras you are able to tap into your divine spark. Our music is for the mental\, spiritual\, and physical expansion of the human family. We are spiritual individuals who express our spirituality through the frequencies and tones of the music that we play.” \nArtistically it’s a watershed album as it was carefully crafted by the creative core of founding member JAH Boogie\, and longtime member Aaron Konkol\, who is a multi-instrumentalist and prodigious musical talent. The two shared music writing responsibilities while JAH Boogie retained lyric duties. Divine Spark also boasts a verse from acclaimed South Side\, Chicago-via-Madison rapper F. Stokes on the track “Civil Rights” and the entire album was mixed by legendary Bob Marley recording engineer Errol Brown\, other than the two dubs that close out the album which were produced by the band. \nHighlights on Divine Spark include the title track\, “Meditation\,” “Civil Rights\,” and “Prophecy.” The album’s spiritual core is the simmering and soulful title track. “This song deals with the spiritual essence of each human being\,” JAH Boogie explains. “The song also expresses that when you open your heart chakra it helps to open up the many other chakras within the spiritual body. When these energy centers or chakras are open then many other dimensions are open as well.” “Meditation” aptly conjures its name with sweetly languid grooves. Soul rebel militancy bubbles over with the aptly titled\, “Civil Rights” courtesy of F. Stokes’s fiery rhymes. And the rousing “Prophecy” is sure to inspire self-reflection. “This song deals with going within yourself to find out who you really are or what you really are. We all have spiritual guides or angels who reveal certain things to us\,” explains JAH Boogie. \nA fortuitous encounter at a Rebelution show enabled a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Aaron Konkol\, after marveling over Rebelution’s sparkling live sound\, ran into the group and asked who was manning the boards for their live show. To his astonishment\, it was Errol Brown (Bob Marley\, Gregory Isaacs\, Burning Spear\, among others). At the time\, Natty Nation had been chasing the optimum mix for years. Errol agreed to mix the album in his makeshift studio he built in the back of Rebelution’s tour bus. He worked closely with Aaron’s feedback and the two came up with a majestic mix. \nDivine Spark marks the beginning of an era of fevered creativity and watershed output for Natty Nation. Thinking back on the group’s perseverance\, JAH Boogie says: “We believe in creating positive energy in the universe\, and when we can see the people dancing\, smiling\, and nodding their head to our music\, and then coming up after the shows or reaching out to us to tell us how our music touched them profoundly\, or even just was a great soundtrack to a fun night\, it really means the world to us and keeps us on this path to make music.” Please congratulate them on accomplishing 30 years as relevant players in the reggae/world music scene. \n\nBuy Your Tickets Online Now!Tickets are $20 advance/$25 day of show and are currently limited to 750. SUMMARY:Mike Munson
DESCRIPTION:When asked\, Mike Munson (Winona\, MN) tells people he plays American music. With over a decade of long drives to well-lit\, expansive stages\, tiny dive bars\, and everything in between\, Munson has seen plenty of the country that influences his songwriting. He is a listener first\, soaking up the chord changes and non-traditional tunings of players from rural Mississippi to Chicago\, studying the mastery of Fred McDowell and Charlie Christian alike.Munson’s song writing leaves much to interpretation and strongly invites Midwestern toe-tappers to get out on the dance floor. He brings dark themes and heavy rhythms to his work\, echoing the traditional country blues that provide the undercurrent of his creativity. Having recorded at the Blue Front Cafe in Bentonia\, Mississippi and been mentored by Grammy nominee Jimmy “Duck” Holmes\, Munson has come face to face with the living history of the music of the delta. Munson’s sound is marked by a reverence for this historic southern idiom\, which is laden with intricate finger picking and hypnotic rhythms. His playing highlights the similarities between blues\, American primitive guitar and early rock and roll.Munson released his seventh full-length album\, “Underwood” in 2023. A solo project focused on blending new material and traditional tunes over the course of two short days in the studio. Utilizing thoughtful\, unconventional microphone placement while avoiding overdubs and compiled takes\, the sonics harken back to the juke joints and early electrified recording sessions of country blues.Munson recently released the acoustic\, instrumental album “Perihelion Day” (Liatris Records) under the moniker upup/OVER as he continues to expand his creative playing field. Inspired by time and space and the distance between humans and nature\, upup/OVER explores big issues without letting words get in the way. We ask for a minimum of $6 per adult listener. All money collected goes to Mike. Show will be outside\, weather permitting.

SUMMARY:Ben Cosgrove
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Mother’s Night! Ben Cosgrove\, pianist extraordinaire\, will take you on a spectacular\, emotional journey through his music. If you have an affinity for piano\, this is a must experience show. We ask for a minimum $10 cash per adult listener with all $$ going to the artist. The show will take place on the porch or outside (weather permitting).Food and drink are available for sale from the bar. There will be no server on the porch during the performance. Kitchen closes at 7pm on Sunday.\nABOUT THE ARTIST:MUSICIAN\, WRITER\, & LANDSCAPE ENTHUSIASTBen Cosgrove is a traveling composer-performer whose music explores themes of landscape\, place\, and environment. Ben has performed across the US\, collaborated with artists ranging from Palaver Strings to Ghost of Paul Revere\, and held artist residencies and fellowships with institutions including the National Park Service\, the National Forest Service\, Harvard University\, Middlebury College\, the Schmidt Ocean Institute\, NASA\, and the Sitka Center for Art & Ecology.Ben’s fourth studio album\, The Trouble With Wilderness\, an evocation of different expressions of nature and wildness within the built environment\, was released earlier this year. The album has been the subject of an episode of the NHPR show Outside/In\, was deemed one of the best new releases of spring 2021 by WBUR\, and has been called “beautiful and fascinating” (The Maine Edge)\, “deeply impressive” (Independent Clauses) and “immediately evocative and fully arresting… brim[ming] with technical mastery and emotional capital” (Seven Days).Ben travels constantly all over the country\, performing a unique variety of original instrumental music that explores themes of landscape\, geography\, and environment while straddling a line between folk and classical music. His “electric and exhilarating” live performances are at once dazzling and intimate: music that has been described as “stunning” and “compelling and powerful\,” — Red Line Roots has called him “stupidly talented” — all presented with “warmth\, humor\, honesty\, and the easy familiarity of a troubadour.”Throughout his career\, the strongest forces guiding Ben’s composition and performances have been his deep and abiding interests in landscape\, geography\, place\, and environment. For years\, he has been fascinated and inspired by the different ways people understand and interact with the landscapes around them\, and through songs with names like “Prairie Fire\,” “Champlain\,” “Little Rain\,” “Nashua\,” “Sigurd F. Olson\,” “Kennebec\,” and others\, he seeks to explore those relationships and reflect them in sound. “I don’t think of my pieces as rendering places in music\,” he once remarked in an interview in Harvard Magazine\, “but more just as a way of responding to places musically. Writing music just turns out to be a great way for me to process the world.”Do not miss this insanely talented performer in this magical space. We hope you can join us.

SUMMARY:MarDe Brooks
DESCRIPTION:As the very first notes hit the air\, you hear the impact of a young boy spinning his daddy’s vinyl collection\, you feel the echoes of the small Alabama mill town on the banks of the Chattahoochee River—and\, you hear his heart.\nThis powerhouse vocalist and rhythm guitarist wrote his first collection of songs in just under a year at his home in Valley\, Alabama after spending 11 years as frontman of the rock band Fifth Element. During his time with Fifth Element\, they opened for heavy hitters Blackberry Smoke and Drivin’ and Cryin’.\nBrooks felt the call to write and perform his own original music and reached out to a songwriter friend in Mississippi who encouraged him to gather his influences and experiences—and put pen to paper. Brooks used this inspiration to craft a collection of original songs that are surprising in their candidness\, comforting in their familiarity\, and disarming in their authenticity.\nMarDe then decided to record his new songs and signed up to work with producer and engineer Greg McGowan at his studio Rose City Recording in Charleston\, West Virginia.\nThe session brought together some of the region’s best and brightest musicians and in a truly creative and collaborative spirit\, the album came together with an electric current of ideas. Joey Lafferty on bass\, Mark Cline Bates on keys\, lead guitarists Jeremiah Hatfield\, David McGuire\, and Travis Egnor trading licks\, and rounding out the rhythm section were drummers Jeremy “Wood” Roberts and Eric Robbins. Also sitting in was fiddler Molly Lynn Page who added a special flavor to Brooks’ songs. And\, songwriter Ritch Henderson\, Jeremiah Hatfield\, Eric Robbins\, and Mark Cline Bates lent their voices on harmony vocals.\nHis debut album\, ‘Running Out of Time’ will take you on a journey—deep tones that stretch from central Alabama to the hollers and hills of Appalachia. It is an Americana album through and through: infectious and compelling\, shrouded in a certain kind of timelessness\, and written from a place of both struggle and hope.\nAfter Brooks made the decision to step from a day job into a solo music career\, the universe answered in kind. Onstage\, his magnetism tears down the walls to connect with audiences across the South. Brooks opened for the newest Oh Boy recording artist\, Arlo McKinley\, toured with fellow Alabama songwriter Ritch Henderson\, and\, also appeared with the traveling songwriter showcase HiIlbillies and Guitars. He has received invitations to perform at regional festivals such as Gypsy Fest and Kentucky’s Festival of the Red.\nAs his lyrics say\, “Even if you do things the right way\, you don’t always get what is earned.” But\, sometimes—and especially in this case—MarDe Brooks will definitely get what is earned. In fact\, he just made an album that you’ll be singing along with for a long time to come.\nWe ask for a minimum of $5 cash for the musician. He’s driven from Alabama to entertain Trempealeau. We proudly host Marde Sunday in partnership with Muddy Waters where he plays Saturday night.

SUMMARY:Clay Fulton
DESCRIPTION:Clay Fulton is a singer-songwriter from Rochester\, Minnesota. His debut album When Trouble Comes has been a long time coming. Songs like “Walls Of St. Paul” and “When Trouble Comes” were written while studying at McNally Smith College of Music in St. Paul\, Minnesota before coming home to help run the family restaurant. While buried in the business that is owning a restaurant\, he found time to play live music and create songs like “Down On Broadway” that tell of the late nights that follow a long day of work\, and the winding down that takes place afterwards. Using the peaceful vessel of a long drive\, Clay gracefully takes us through his journey showcasing the importance of family and relationships in his more recent songs “Show Me State” and “Call My Bluff”. Clay has a knack for writing clever and simple lines that are both approachable and memorable. We experience that first hand in the song “28 Days”. This album takes us back to the great American folk singers of yesteryear with a modern indie-pop twist; think John Prine meets Dawes. When Trouble Comes balances smart story-telling with serious but playful musical arrangements to support them. Clay definitely wants you to feel the angst\, frustration and grit of the ups and downs of love and life\, all while leaving you with a sign of hope. He’s on the road solo while the ‘Lost 40’ band are getting ready for a busy outdoor concert season.$6 or more cash cover per adult listener with all money collected going directly to the artist. Hugs and kisses! Here he is with the bandhttps://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qoYaLkhkBsU…
