SUMMARY:Annie & the Oakies
DESCRIPTION:Although Annie and the Oakies is a relatively recent name in the southern Wisconsin bluegrass scene\, its roots run much deeper. All the members of A&TO were part of the Oak Street Ramblers\, a Madison favorite for nearly two decades. In 2022\, the band rebranded and released its eponymous debut album. Although Annie and the Oakies has a foundation based on classic bluegrass stylings\, its repertoire divulges a wider range of influences. Indeed\, the unexpected cover song reworked to fit a bluegrass lineup has become a staple of the band’s live performances.\nThe band consists of Annie Emmenegger on guitar and vocals\, Ian Alderman on mandolin\, dobro\, and vocals\, Jeff Kunkle on bass\, Mark Schlutt on banjo and vocals\, and Tina Thompson on fiddle. When not playing together\, all of the members are involved in side projects that allow them to explore the diversity of their musical DNA. Annie frequently performs solo gigs in the area. Mark and Ian are founding members of the up-and-coming bluegrass act Sorry Mountain. Tina\, an accomplished classical performer\, leads the Yahara String Quartet. Jeff plays electric bass in the regionally popular Cajun Strangers and the synth-rock band The Moonboot.Since its inception\, the band has played several high-profile shows\, including the Stoughton Opera House\, LarryFest\, multiple Madison festivals\, and a sold-out album release show at the North Street Cabaret. They have a monthly residency at the Harmony Bar and Grill in Madison\, performing every second Wednesday of the month. And\, most importantly\, every Thursday night is band practice in Jeff’s basement\, as has been the case for over twenty years. The hat will be passed. Please be generous to keep these artists on the road\, sharing their music and joy. We request a minimum of $5 per adult listener.

SUMMARY:Jeff Cramer & Jack Gregori
DESCRIPTION:Since the release of his 2019 album Northern 45\, Jeff Cramer has been digging into the nooks and crannies of modern folk\, establishing himself as a distinctive interrogator of what it means to call America home. A self-described Midwest runaway\, his passion for the American landscape reveals itself not only in his music but in his lifelong advocacy for clean energy. In August 2024\, Jeff released Forever Morning with acclaimed producer Andrew Berlin (Gregory Alan Isakov’s Evening Machines) — a sprawling road-trip through homelands real and imagined\, mixing soft-thrumming acoustics and sunny drumbeats with a healthy dose of self-exploration. A month later\, he and a magically slapdash band recorded Live at the Bluebird\, a spur-of-the-moment celebration of music he’d spent the better part of a decade crafting with meticulous care. Stripped down and revved up\, Cramer combs through the storied landscape of his folk forefathers to make music that’s both homage and evolution. He’s currently at work on a new record\, and tours when his day job lets him\, or when he can live without the sleep.Jack Gregori brandishes his deep baritone voice and black Stetson from local blues bars in Washington\, DC to Hollywood\, giving audiences a rare opportunity to practice a rebel yell and test out their best heel-toe moves. Raised in Plymouth\, New Hampshire\, on early piano and saxophone lessons and a childhood diet of The Beatles\, Howlin’ Wolf\, and The Rolling Stones\, Jack found his way to country music only after a winding path through three states\, a law degree\, and a boom-to-bust mortgage career — eventually landing in DC\, where his honky-tonk band\, Human Country Jukebox\, built a loyal following through a multi-year residency at the legendary Madam’s Organ. That local buzz turned national when he advanced on NBC’s The Voice\, drawing praise from Grammy-nominated coach Ellie Goulding (“Your voice is incredibly deep and powerful”). The Washingtonian and Washington City Paper have both spotlighted his rise\, and the résumé backs it up: over 500 shows in just the past few years\, a 2014 debut album\, performances at nearly every major DC venue from the Black Cat to The Hamilton\, and shared stages with Nashville mainstays like Jim Lauderdale — all delivered with the kind of lived-in perspective that gives real weight to songs about heartbreak and gratitude alike. The hat will be passed. Please be generous. Thank you for your support of live music and our staff and venue. We’re all in this together. Enjoy!

SUMMARY:Sophie Coyote
DESCRIPTION:Sophie Coyote is a singer/songwriter from the small mid-western town of Waddams Grove\, Illinois. Born in an old farm house surrounded by rolling fields. She was raised on a broad range of musical influences that includeclassic rock & roll\, honky-tonk country and a bit of blues. This open mind of influence has led to a songwriting style that is reminiscent of the raw and honest age of music; lyrically driven with interesting stories\, unique twists and word-play.\nIn March of 2022 she released a live recorded E.P. titled “Indigo Child” featuring 6 of her original songs. The E.P. was recorded on a small microphone with raw\, single-take acoustic tracks showcasing the bare-bones of Sophie’s songwriting talents as well as her unique vocal stylings. The E.P. propelled her into the regional music scene with a full schedule of performance dates around and throughout the Midwest.Grand Rapids\, MI is where Sophie’s first full production song titled\, “Venom” came to fruition. Showcasing producer Mark Lavengood’s talent on guitar\, bass\, mandolin & piano. The haunting fiddle was performed by Nashville\, TN country artist Lillie Mae. Drums by Cassady Feasby of the Dierks Bentely band. With producer Misa Arriaga\, Sophie went on to make her recently released single “Coyote Queen.” Featuring six talented Nashville musicians\, as well as some howling coyotes. This is her first time here at The Hotel. Let’s give her a nice warm welcome! We kindly ask for a minimum of $5 per adult listener. Show will be outside weather permitting.

SUMMARY:Musical Chairs
DESCRIPTION:Our monthly Musical Chairs is a showcase for original music created and curated by Tim Eddy. This month it features Kris Risch\, James ‘Mudkat’ Grant and Hans Reimer.Risch is a local singer songwriter that plays music because it brings him joy. He has played in a few collaborations including The Pinch Hitters and with the recently formed Substitutes. He also plays in a duo with his wife Lisa. He has published one CD and was a winner of the Larryfest songwriters competition in 2017. He is a founding member and regular participant of the Organic Music Cooperative which gathers every other Tuesday at the Historic Trempealeau Hotel. He is especially excited to join his OMC comrades\, James “Mudkat” Grant and Hansel Reimer in this Saturday’s Songwriter Showcase at the Hotel. “I’ve played with these guys a bunch over the Years at the OMC and greatly respect and enjoy the passion they bring to their music. It will be a treat to share the stage with these two. ” Hope to see some old friends and meet some new ones too.James “Mudkat” Grant began listening to rock n roll\, classical\, and country music at an early age. He joined his first band in high school after seeing the Beatles on TV\, extending it through college years playing hundreds and hundreds of gigs. Having the opportunity to open for the Flying Burrito Brothers in May\, 1970\, changed their repertoire and musical direction. The band\, now called North Country\, moved to Denver\, where they opened for the comedian Steve Martin\, but within a year the band had broken up\, so Grant moved into doing solo work with vocal\, guitar and harmonica.Recording his first CD in ’95\, “Not the Only World”\, which was nominated for a Minnesota Music Award\, James continued writing and performing in the upper midwest with occasional forays with other musicians. “This Town”\, an EP\, with This Town \, the title cut\, Southern View\, Distant Light\, and Something New\, was recorded in 2013\, with other songs waiting for studio production.James Grant has been heavily influenced in his writing style by Sting\, Neil Young\, Dylan\, James Taylor and others\, along with environmental and social justice issues. His passion for writing and performing\, with guitar and vocal study\, has continued to this day. This very early member of the Organic Music Cooperative delivers reflective originals and digs deep for obscure tracks that need to be shared and brought back to life.Hans Reimer was born right here in Trempealeau county\, was homeschooled and started playing music at a very young age. The family band began first with his parents then later with his siblings. They even backpacked through Europe\, playing music and writing songs for two months. Now\, 20 years later he is still writing songs and playing music. ‘I love music. I love life\, I love jamming and connecting with people through music. I probably have written hundreds of songs but I can only remember the good ones and I am excited to share them with you!!’These three will take turns playing their originals. No cover. The hat will be passed. Thank you for your support of live music!

SUMMARY:Marques Morel
DESCRIPTION:Marques Morel is an American songwriter/story-teller\, midwestern-twanger/folksinger\, guitar-thumper/harmonica wailer\, street-performer/wandering troubadour\, steadfast woodcutter/migrant worker\, a father\, a son\, and a friend to all.“Taking his cue from the likes of Townes Van Zandt\, Woody Guthrie\, Hank Williams\, and any number of other tattered troubadours\, (Marques Morel) sounds like a cross between Johnny Cash\, Bob Seger\, and the late John Stewart (solo\, The Kingston Trio) reciting ragged tales of the American West and its once-former glories\,” writes Lee Zimmerman of The Alternate Root.Originally from the Illinois corn country\, he has performed just about anywhere that anybody would listen: big city street corners around the world\, county fairs\, folk festivals\, hole in the wall taverns/divebars/honky tonks\, cabin porches\, backyard barbeques\, listening rooms\, theatres large and small\, and beside many campfires and woodstoves amongst the ghosts of his songwriter heroes.Marques has had the honor of sharing stages with some of the great songsters of our time- Charlie Parr\, Arlo McKinley\, Joe Pug\, Willy Tea Taylor\, Riley Downing\, Billy Don Burns\, Pokey LaFarge\, and Chicago Farmer to name a few of his favorites.Marques has released five original albums to date: “Live and Raw in Rockford” (2013) and “Searching for America” (2014) were recorded bare bones with passion before his hiatus from solo work for about 6 years. In 2021 Morel returned to the studio for “Trail of The Ghost” and in 2022 he released his first full band record- “Wind and Rain.”In June of 2024 Morel released “Tales and Tellings\,” his first work to earn widespread critical acclaim. “Tales and Tellings” was recorded at Bomb Shelter studio in Nashville\, TN and produced by Andrija Tokic (producer of The Deslondes\, John R. Miller\, Ian Noe\, Luke Bell\, etc.). In response to the record\, NO DEPRESSION stated- “There’s no filler here. Every song on ‘Tales and Tellings’ is packed with plenty of ear candy\, revealing Morel’s wry wit that never turns smarmy. It’s delivered from the heart\, dusty and roadworn\, but undaunted.”Known for his intense and infectious energy on stage and his gritty and honest songwriting and delivery\, Marques Morel has been described by his fans as “raw and rustic” and “guts on the floor\,” sometimes abandoning the mic and guitar cable to march into the crowd and lead a raucous bar or a sterile listening room into a grand finale of singalongs and stompalongs. He currently plays around 150 shows a year and will be found performing either as a one man show accompanied by his old guitar\, harmonica on the rack\, and makeshift kick drum\, or with his dynamic and spirited band\, The Midnight Wind.We ask for a minimum of $6 per adult listener for the artists-the price of a pint.First two photos by Cozette Morel. Third photo stamped by the photographer.

SUMMARY:Eli Gardiner
DESCRIPTION:Soulful\, weathered Americana for fans of Jason Isbell\, John Moreland & Springsteen’s Nebraska side. Honest songs\, close up.Eli Gardiner writes songs that feel weathered\, human\, and wide open — the kind of Americana that carries the dust of old roads\, the ache of real life\, and the quiet hope that keeps people moving.Born and raised in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and now based in Minneapolis\, Gardiner blends Americana\, heartland rock\, and folk into songs that are intimate\, soulful\, and deeply rooted in story. His music has drawn comparisons to the emotional grit of John Moreland\, Jason Isbell\, and Chris Knight\, while still carving out a voice that is unmistakably his own.Gardiner’s latest EP\, Sliver\, released in March 2026\, follows his haunting 2023 album Transient — a hushed\, home-recorded collection inspired in part by the stark storytelling of Springsteen’s Nebraska. His songs move between the personal and the political\, the lonely and the communal\, always circling back to what it means to be human\, to endure\, and to keep reaching for connection.Music in Minnesota called him “relatable\, soulful\, and honest\,” while Americana UK praised his voice as “full of character and soul.” Whether solo\, acoustic\, or backed by a full band\, Eli Gardiner brings the kind of songwriting that belongs in a listening room — raw enough to feel immediate\, crafted enough to stay with you long after the last note fades.

SUMMARY:Story Time for Adults
DESCRIPTION:Join local readers for a night out close to home. It’s the third SFA of the season. We’d like to welcome and thank Meghan\, the ‘new’ library director at The Trempealeau Library for putting thistogether\, choosing the topics and readers. Our very own Ty Webster will be your host. The theme “Celebrating Books: Banned or Not” advocates for the freedom to read. By celebrating both banned and widely accepted books\, this theme encourages open dialogue about censorship\, the value of storytelling\, and the role of literature in society. It invites readers to reflect on the power of books to inspire change and promote understanding.Up to six readers choose an excerpt related to the theme to read out loud for approximately 10 minutes. Get exposed to some new reads or maybe an old favorite needs revisiting. We ask for quiet during the readings\, but you do not need to raise your hand to take a beverage or bathroom break. Come celebrate literacy!
